Medical Director & Endovascular and Interventional RadiologistBenjamin Dabo Sarkodie is a distinguished figure in the field of Vascular and Neuro interventional radiology (VIR), renowned for his significant contributions to advancing minimally invasive treatments in Ghana and the sub-Saharan Africa region. As an Associate Professor at the University of Ghana Medical School (UGMS) and a Consultant Vascular and Interventional Radiologist, Dr. Sarkodie has played a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of minimally invasive therapies in Ghana. Prof. Sarkodie holds the esteemed distinction of being the first certified interventional radiologist in Ghana. Throughout his career, he has pioneered numerous groundbreaking procedures, including the first endovascular treatment of brain aneurysm and mechanical thrombectomy for acute strokes, among others here at Euracare. His innovative spirit and commitment to excellence have earned him recognition as a leader in his field. In 2019 ,he was featured on the BBC for his ground breaking brain aneurysm treatment in Ghana. With a strong academic background and extensive training experiences in Ghana, the USA, Singapore, and South Korea, Prof. Sarkodie brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his practice. He is a fellow of the West African College of Surgeons (WACS) and a member of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, reflecting his dedication to professional development and excellence in patient care. In addition to his clinical practice, Prof. Sarkodie is actively involved in capacity building and manpower development in VIR. He initiated the VIR fellowship training program in Ghana in 2020, which is accredited and conducted in collaboration with the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons. Currently, he oversees the training of two fellows, nurturing the next generation of VIR specialists in the region. His research contributions in VIR are substantial, with a focus on neuro and oncological interventions. He has authored numerous papers in the field, contributing to the body of knowledge and advancing the understanding of VIR principles and techniques. As Vice President of the Ghana Association of Radiologists (GAR), Prof. Sarkodie continues to advocate for excellence and innovation in radiology practice, further solidifying his position as a leader and mentor in the field.
